The "Mentoring" lunch, facilitated by Dr. Jerry Baldasty, Interim Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School, and Sabrina Bonaparte, a graduate student in the Sociology Department co-authors of the Mentor Memo, “Building Your Network: Finding Mentors” (2007) (http://www.grad.washington.edu/mentoring/memos/13_networking_and_mentors.pdf), will provide insight into establishing mentor relationship(s), how to be a good mentee, and many other issues related to mentoring. Dr. Baldasty will also discuss his personal approach to mentorship, and the "Mentor Memos" he has created in order to enhance mentoring relationships within the department of Communication, and the UW Graduate School as a whole.
The Graduate Opportunities & Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP)* brown bag ViA lunches provide opportunities for a featured faculty/staff member and a small group of students to discuss topics significant for future faculty members and others interested in higher education careers. The lunches are informative, yet informal conversations between faculty/staff and students, fostering community and a nurturing learning environment, while promoting professional development.
